Possible deal for Red Deer seniors centre workers

The union representing workers at the Symphony Seniors Living Centre Aspen Ridge in Red Deer has reached a tentative deal with the employer in the current labour dispute.

The union representing some staff at the Symphony Senior Living Centre in Red Deer reached a tentative deal on Friday that could end a current contract dispute.

About 130 staff from the southern Alberta facility, including nurses, health-care aides and support staff, have been off the job since Monday.

"We're pleased a tentative agreement could be reached both sides find acceptable," said Guy Smith, president of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees.

Staff will vote on the deal on Saturday and the results will be released later that afternoon.

The union had filed a complaint of bargaining in bad faith against the employer, but the complaint has been dismissed now that a tentative deal has been reached.
