Power outages, several school closures Friday morning
An unseasonably warm winter has now switched to a snowier than normal spring.
A snowstorm in parts of the province closed several schools Friday morning, including all of Anglophone North and Francophone Northeast schools.
Francophone South school district had to close a number of schools, including:
École Régionale de Baie-Sainte-Anne
École Clément-Cormier in Bouctouche
École Dr-Marguerite-Michaud in Bouctouche
École Blanche-Bourgeois in Cocagne
École Carrefour Beausoleil in Miramichi
École Notre-Dame
École Soleil Levant in Richibucto
École Étoile de l'Acadie in Rogersville
École Camille-Vautour in Saint-Antoine
École Calixte-F.-Savoie in Sainte-Anne-de-Kent
École Mont Carmel in Sainte-Marie-de-Kent
École Mgr-Marcel-François-Richard in Saint-Louis-de-Kent
N.B. Power says more than 7,600 customers were without power.
The majority of the outages are in Miramichi and surrounding regions.
Spokesperson Dominique Couture said scattered outages across the province are a result of the weather. In Miramichi, crews are investigating a problem in the transmission system.
Environment Canada snowfall warnings are in effect for northeastern parts of New Brunswick, calling for an additional 15 to 20 centimetres of snow.
The warning said the heavy wet snow would taper off on Friday night, but power outages might occur from the weight of the snow.
The snow has mainly stopped in most other parts of the province, according to Environment Canada's provincial summary.
