Prime minister expected to make major announcement on P.E.I.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is visiting Prince Edward Island Tuesday afternoon, and is expected to make a major funding announcement.

Trudeau was scheduled to meet with Premier Dennis King at 4 p.m. AT, before an announcement at the Carrefour in Charlottetown at 4:30 p.m.

Federal Minister of Families, Children and Social Development Ahmed Hussen and P.E.I. Minister of Education and Lifelong Learning Natalie Jameson will also attend the announcement.

Trudeau has announced deals to reduce child-care costs in B.C. and Nova Scotia this month, and the P.E.I. government has said the province has been holding similar negotiations.

The prime minister started his day in Moncton, where he announced that Canada now has more than enough vaccine doses to fully vaccinate all eligible members of the population.

He then travelled on to P.E.I., surprising eaters at the Blue Mussel Cafe in the Rustico area.
