‘The Princess Bride’ hero is coming to SC to share stories about the classic. Here’s when & where
The novel “The Princess Bride” by William Goldman was published in 1973. Actor and director Rob Reiner brought it to the screen in 1987.
Now, here in 2024, the movie that has become a cult classic will be celebrated in Greenville with its lead actor Cary Elwes on hand to talk about the film and share some behind the scenes stories.
“An Inconceivable Evening with Cary Elwes takes place on July 27 at the Peace Center for Performing Arts. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.
The movie will be shown and Elwes will talk about it afterward. He promises to tell never shared secrets, according to the Peace Center.
“Journey back to the lands of Florin and Guilder in an adventure filled with fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, miracles, and of course, true love,” the Peace Center says on its website.
The movie is at once fantasy, adventure and comedy and centers around farmhand Westley (Elwes) rescuing his true love Princess Buttercup from the Prince Humperdinck.
It is No. 88 on The American Film Institute’s “AFI’s 100 Years...100 Passions” list of the 100 greatest film love stories.
Elwes has appeared in Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Saw, Twister, Liar, Liar, Stranger Things and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Tickets are $30 to $50. The event is part of a nationwide tour.
