Alderney's general election will be held in November if politicians approve the date in the next States sitting.

The States of Alderney has said five of the 10 seats would be contested on Saturday 16 November if approved on 10 July.

A president of the States will then be elected on Saturday 30 November, with voters able to give their preference of who to represent the island in Guernsey a week later on Saturday 7 December.

Officer Theo Leijser said he would be running a campaign to explain what is expected of candidates, how hustings work and what happens on election day.

"We hope a good number of candidates come forward for the ordinary election in a sense of engagement and collective responsibility," he said.

Anyone in Alderney who lives there and is aged 16 or over can vote in the elections.

Nominations for the general election should be submitted during the seven-day period ending at 16:00 GMT on Friday 1 November.

For the Presidential election, nominations should be in during the seven days ending at 16:00 on Monday 18 November, and for the plebiscite election the seven days ending at 16:00 on 22 November.
