RCMP officer cleared of sexual touching allegation involving child

Nova Scotia's Serious Incident Response Team has cleared an RCMP officer of allegations he allowed a three-year-old girl to touch his genitals.

RCMP referred the allegation to SIRT in October. The young girl was cared for by the officer’s wife in their home a few days a week between September 2013 and June 2014.

The investigation found the girl, now four, made two brief comments to her parents in July 2014, which might have suggested the officer allowed the touching.

However, she didn’t provide any further details when asked by her parents and the original comments could be interpreted to mean something else, SIRT says.

The agency also says the girl disclosed nothing to them after they launched their investigation.

Both the officer and his wife gave statements saying he did not have significant contact with the child.

The officer also passed a polygraph exam conducted by a private provider.

SIRT says its investigation concluded there was no available evidence to suggest anything had occurred and that it would be unsafe to draw any conclusions based on what the girl said to her parents.
