RCMP releases new information in Roger Byer homicide
RCMP in Saskatchewan have released new information on a homicide case from four years ago.
Roger Byer was found dead in a field on Highway 41, south of Melfort, Sask. in April 2010. Byer worked as an ATM service technician and was last seen on Jan. 20, 2010 while working in Melfort.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Larry Brost said Tuesday that the theft of tens of thousands of dollars was the motive, and there were other new details as well.
"New information related to a black, heavy-duty work truck that was in the area at the time of Mr. Byer's disappearance," Sgt. Brost said. "There were at least two people in the vehicle when it was in the area."
Police are asking anyone with information to call RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
"If you saw a black heavy-duty work truck, with at least two occupants, in this area, please contact your local police service," Sgt. Brost said.
Byer was reported missing on January 26, 2010 after his daughter had not heard from him for several days. His body and vehicle were found months later in a heavily treed, abandoned farm site between Yellow Creek and Meskanaw.
An autopsy determined his death was a homicide.
