Remote-control racetrack considered by Summerside

A Summerside, P.E.I. group is talking to the city about building a remote-control car racetrack.

Currently there are a few places to race across the Island, but none that are active in Summerside.

"The plan is, a place for families and children to get outside away from the TVs and get active," said Summerside Coun. Tyler DesRoches.

"They had a couple of little parks, there used to be one in St. Nicholas, that's gone now, and there's a couple of other ones that they had,"

The local youth club Generation XX wants to create an RC racing circuit behind the Notre Dame street park.

"They want to build one within the city limits and it's something they tried to do a few years ago and they didn't really get anywhere with it. I would say that it probably will happen," said DesRoches.

DesRoches said because the radio control cars are electric there will be no noise for residents living nearby.

Generation XX says if the city approves the plan it will foot the bill to create and maintain the park, with no cost to the city.

City council will vote on the recommendation of this plan later this month.
