Coral Reef softball standout Brianna Fields is the Dade High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.

Fields, a freshman, went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI and made a great defensive play in left field to prevent a run and finish off Palmetto for a 5-2 win and the GMAC championship on April 20. Fields also hit 1 for 2 with two runs scored in the semifinals against Hialeah Gardens.

On the season, Fields is hitting .409 (18 for 44) with six RBI, three doubles and 11 runs scored.

Coral Reef is 18-6-1 on the season and has won 12 of its past 13 games.

Columbus baseball’s Carlos Jacome, Palmetto badminton’s Katarina Slazas, Carrollton girls’ track and field’s Arianna Garcia and Westminster Christian baseball’s Aaron Hernandez rounded out this week’s participants.

The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
