Rex Hillier sworn in as Conception Bay South MHA

Rex Hillier was sworn in on Friday as the new MHA for the district of Conception Bay South.

The ceremony took place at Government House in St. John's.

Hillier won the byelection on Nov. 5, and becomes the the 14th member of the Liberal caucus in the House of Assembly.

The seat became vacant when longtime Progressive Conservative Terry French announced his departure from politics.

French had represented Conception Bay South in the legislature since 2002.

Hillier said although he's been officially sworn in, he is still on the campaign trail — abeit in Trinity-Bay de Verde, where he is helping the Liberal campaign in a byelection next Tuesday.

"I've been given this afternoon off, but I will be going out tomorrow morning and that will be my third trip ... and I expect I'll be out next week as well," he told reporters at a scrum.

On Tuesday, voters will also go to the polls in a byelection in Humber East.
