Robert Griffin III Says Being a Girl Dad 'Changes Your Perspective on Life': 'It's Been Amazing' (Exclusive)

The former NFL star and wife Grete Šadeiko Griffin share three daughters and he is also dad to a daughter from a previous relationship

Robert Griffin III loves being a girl dad.

The former NFL player, 34, spoke with PEOPLE at the Receiver premiere in Los Angeles on Tuesday, July 9, where he opened up about how much he loves raising daughters Gia, 18 months, Gameya, 4, and Gloria, 7, who he shares with wife Grete Šadeiko Griffin, 31. Robert is also dad to his 9-year-old daughter Reese Ann from a previous relationship.

"Honestly, it just changes your perspective on life. No matter whatever's happened with me on camera, off camera, when I come home, I'm Daddy. And they run up to Daddy and they give Daddy a hug and it takes all your worries away," says the proud dad.

The athlete went on to explain how raising his daughters and motivating them to work hard is an "amazing" feeling.

"For me, it's just instilling in them that they can be whatever they want to be, as long as they work hard at it and just enjoy life. So that, for me, has been amazing," he tells PEOPLE. "They got an amazing mother here in my wife, Grete, who really makes a lot of sacrifices for me to be able to do the job that I'm doing. But she always makes it to where I'm present for my kids and I want to be present for them."

"So they just love me for who I am every day, how I love their mom, how I treat them, how I raise them," Robert adds. "And that, to me, is something that I don't take lightly. I take it very seriously. And it's a joy to be their dad."

Robert welcomed baby Gia with his wife in January 2023, announcing her birth in a joint post on Instagram.

The photo carousel began with a close-up of the newborn nuzzled up in a fury blanket and looking at the camera. Next, one of the couple's daughters could be seen leaning in to kiss Mom as she held the infant while still in the hospital.

Other photos showed the sports analyst and his daughters bonding with the newest member of the family. "Gia Griffin💖2023 off to an incredible start✨," they captioned the joint post.
