Second round of overnight snow threatens tough travel in Manitoba
Snowfall warnings remain in effect for portions of southern Manitoba expecting a second thump of wintry conditions heading into Friday. Some areas could see as much as 20 cm of snow by the time precipitation finally comes to an end.

Our first round of snow swept through the province on Wednesday night, bringing 10 cm of snow to Brandon and a modest blanket of 4 cm over in Winnipeg. This second round of snow will prove more formidable for southern sections of Manitoba.

This early snowfall is a reminder that winter is indeed just around the corner, and residents are encouraged to prepare for winter driving conditions and falling temperatures.
More snow arrives overnight Thursday into Friday
This latest round of snow arrives courtesy of a stronger winter storm straddling the international border as it tracks toward northern Ontario.
We already saw snow push into communities near the border by Thursday evening, and the frozen precipitation will make its way toward Winnipeg as the evening progresses. The heaviest snow will fall through the overnight hours.

PLAN AHEAD: Warm or wintry? Halloween weekend holds a mixed bag for Canada
Visibility will begin to improve for the morning commute even as flurries linger across the region.
The heaviest totals will remain south of the Trans-Canada Highway, with wide variations in ultimate snowfall totals across Metro Winnipeg. All told, storm total snowfall accumulations could reach 20 cm in pockets of southeastern Manitoba, with totals gradually decreasing northwest toward Winnipeg.
Cold northerly winds blowing across the lakes could lead to enhanced snowfall rates through Friday morning, padding totals by 5-10 cm northeast of Winnipeg around Selkirk. This lake-induced enhancement shouldn’t last long, however, as winds will steadily change direction heading into Friday.
"Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions," says Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) in the snowfall warning.
A cold front will bring a fresh chance for additional snow to southern Manitoba overnight Sunday into Monday.
