Ryan Gosling’s Favorite Sandwich Is Hilariously Relatable
He's not wrong.
The humble sandwich tends to be snubbed, but since our early days of lunchbox meals, a sandwich has been the highlight of the school day. It's possible you’ve evolved from peanut butter and jellies with the crust cut off to more advanced subs—like the ones you’d find at Jersey Mike’s or Publix. Or, maybe not—heck, even Travis Kelce still enjoys an Uncrustable more than anything else.
No matter what your sandwich of choice is nowadays, there’s no denying that it’s time to give the simple meal its flowers. And, we’re not the only ones who think so—celebs like Stanley Tucci and Rachael Ray have been touting their go-to sandwich recipes for years. And late-night host Stephen Colbert asks the incredibly important question “What is the best sandwich” to all of his guests taking the “Colbert Questionert” on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
The sandwich question is meant to be a softball start to Colbert’s questionnaire, which ends with more thought-provoking questions like “Describe the rest of your life in five words” or “What do you think happens when we die?” But, some of the guest’s sandwich answers are also quite interesting—for example, Bono eats french fries and butter on bread and Martha Stewart likes liverwurst with mustard and mayo.
The "Best Sandwich," According to Ryan Gosling
Ryan Gosling recently took the “Colbert Questionert” and his answers made us fall in love with him even more than during his “I’m Just Ken” performance at the Oscars.
When Colbert asked Gosling, “What is the best sandwich,” the Golden Globe Award-winning actor answered with no hesitation: "Ice cream.”
Colbert gave him a surprised look, but Gosling’s reasoning was pretty spot on. “You can have all the sandwiches in the world and it’d be a tough decision, but the ice cream sandwich comes out [and] your mind’s made up,” he said.
Is he wrong? Absolutely not, but it does beg the question, what kind of ice cream sandwich?
As with choosing between a turkey club or an Italian sub, there are multiple ice cream sandwich options. Do you go for the classic vanilla ice cream with chocolate wafer sandwich? Or branch out to the Chipwich? And with brands like Blue Bunny and Jeni’s making s’mores- and key lime pie-flavored ice cream sandwiches, it's truly getting hard to choose a favorite.
But, one thing’s for certain: You’ll never regret choosing the frozen sweet treat over a traditional sandwich because—let’s be honest—you can’t be sad when you’re eating ice cream.
Between his love for Lay’s All-Dressed chips and a raspberry pie with fluted crust, we were already Gosling fans. But now, knowing he’d choose ice cream over a savory meal, means we definitely want to be his best friend.
