Sabrina Carpenter's Stunning Archival Dress was Also Worn by Madonna

Sabrina Carpenter loves a good archival fashion moment. Remember that Victoria's Secret slip that was technically older than she is, or her 2000s birthday dress, which her stylist found on Depop? While in Paris, Sabrina Carpenter again dipped into the fashion archives with a stunning Michael Kors dress that was once worn by Madonna on the cover of Glamour magazine. One dress, two icons!

According to the official Michael Kors Instagram, Carpenter's “hand-embroidered crystal slip dress” came from the Resort 1990 Michael Kors collection and was originally worn on the runway by model Gail Elliott. It was then worn by Madonna for Glamour's Woman of the Year Issue that same year, photographed by fashion legend Patrick Demarchelier. (Chances are you've probably seen the pic of Madge in said dress; it's an iconic black-and-white shot of the Queen of Pop.)

The dress is a disco dream, a knee-length spaghetti strap slip dress that shimmered and sparkled in the camera lens. Though she had big shoes to fill, Carpenter made the 1990 dress her own, wearing it with a pair of matching sparkly peep-toe platform shoes and a silver clutch, her long blonde hair styled in her go-to loose waves. A deep red lip only intensified the glam factor of this true fairytale fashion moment.

Carpenter is currently having the kind of year you only dream about, with number-one singles and a forthcoming world tour. In early 2024, she opened for Taylor Swift at the Eras tour, then took on Coachella with a viral performance. Her style is having a moment, too; Carpenter gravitates toward mini skirts and platform shoes but also loves a good slip dress and a '90s grunge look. Is the “Espresso” singer moving into her Hollywood glamour era? If this dress is any indication, yes!
