Sacramento ice cream parlor is one of best in the US, Yelp says. Here’s where it ranks

Sacramentans can cool down with a scoop from one of the best ice cream shops in the country, according to Yelp.

The crowd sourcing website released a list of the top 100 ice cream shops in the United States, and Gunther’s Ice Cream made the list, at No. 68.

Yelp came up with its list by factoring in the volume of customer reviews between Jan. 1, 2022, and March 31. This year’s ice cream trends focused on international flavors including:

  • Ice cream flavors like ube, a Philippine dessert made from purple yam.

  • Mexican style paletas, also known as popsicles, made from natural fruit.

  • Vegan and dairy free ice cream flavors.

  • Ice cream tucked into ice cones.

Gunther’s Ice Cream

Gunther’s neon “Jugglin’ Joe” sign was designed by the ice cream shop’s original owner Herman Gunther, who told his children that if Joe ever dropped a tossed scoop, that day’s ice cream was free.
