Get, Set, Go. Here’s how to sail through 2020 like a Boss Lady!

New Year may only mean that our planet managed to complete yet another revolution around the Sun, but it is a good enough reason for us to press the ‘Refresh’ button of life. As we step into another brand-new chapter of our lives, MAKERSIndia lists a few tips and tricks to sail through the year like the Boss Lady you always have been.

Be the accounts Queen

Making money is tough, saving it shouldn’t be.

The first step to true independence is taking charge of your finances. Try understanding your full financial picture and make an estimate of the major expenses you have to incur throughout the year. Right from the beginning, start setting aside some money for these ‘big goals.’

Thanks to technology and innovation, there are plenty of personal finance apps and platforms to help you glide through the financial highway.

Maybe those six-inch heels are truly irresistible, but would you rather add one more to your already ‘good-for-an-entire-store’ collection or save up for the uptown apartment? The road to financial independence is a tough one, but with planning and self-restrictions, it is certainly manageable.

Eat.Pray.Love. Repeat

Once you have your finances in place, get your wanderlust shoes on and plan that one trip that you have been procrastinating about for months, or even years. Mark Twain said, “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness”, so keep sitting at one place when the world can be your oyster!

And, travelling doesn't always have to do with extravaganza. It could also be the new neighbourhood in your city, or visiting the beautiful lake at the countryside.

Put on your wanderlust shoes for some self-discovery, fascinating interactions with absolute strangers and hogging on local cuisines.

Keep turning pages

“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies.”

If budget doesn’t work in your favour, the easiest way to travel to a far-away land, is through a book.

If you are a hoarder and have a pile of books lying in your shelf, this is the time to convert hoarding into a habit. Set aside at least an hour every day, dedicated to just reading.

Inculcating reading into your routine will also help you educate yourself in the easiest way possible, and don’t restrict yourself to just books. Read magazines, newspapers, blogs, articles, but certainly start reading!

Surprise yourself

Hydrophobic? Take the scuba-diving course.

Scared of heights? Go bungee-jumping.

Tired of ordering out? Take help from YouTube and start cooking.

Do something new or re-live your old habits.

It is much more productive to pick a new skill and hone it in your free time, than lying around wondering what to do next. What more? Indulging in something constructive and new, will keep the counterproductive thoughts at bay.

A new hobby is never a bad idea. More often than not, it will be the extra brownie points in your resume or another thing to talk about on your next date.

Love the image in the mirror

Self-love or self-care doesn’t end with pouring your favourite wine in a glass and putting on a sheet mask. While developing a skin-care routine is extremely important, you have to take equal care of your physical and mental health.

Nothing screams a healthy body than the sweat beads on your forehead, after a long run or a good workout at the gym. If the gym doesn’t inspire you as much, enroll for a dance or Zumba session to lift your mood up after work.

Similarly, if you have been living the “It hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year,” phase, a mindful meditation or yoga session works wonders. Just look for things that’ll make you happy and celebrate yourself!
