Sarah Jessica Parker Denies That She 'Dislikes' Kim Cattrall After SATC Reboot News

If you're pondering the same question today, then you're in luck.

After years of speculation, Carrie Bradshaw herself (Sarah Jessica Parker, who is also often referred to as 'SJP') has confirmed that a spin-off series of SATC is finally in the works.

Here's everything we know about the upcoming reboot...

What was the deal with the original 'Sex And The City'?

In 1998, the HBO sitcom burst onto TV screens introducing four thirty-something New York women navigating careers, boasting very impressive and designer-filled wardrobes, the strongest of female friendships and fascinating love and sex lives.

Enter Carrie Bradshaw, the show's narrator, a writer (who somehow affords that studio flat on New York's Upper East Side) whose weekly Sex And The City column gives the show its name. She's known as the 'ultimate single gal' despite having a long-running on-off relationship with the mysterious 'Mr Big' (actor Chris Noth) who fans will know she ended up marrying in the film's first spin-off film.

Then there's Charlotte York Goldenblatt (portrayed by Kristin Davis) who worked in an art gallery while yearning for a husband and children. She ended up marrying Harry Goldenblatt and the two adopted children.

Cynthia Nixon (now known equally for her political moves having run for New York governor last year) played Miranda Hobbes - the impressive feminist lawyer who ended up with loveable Steve and their son Brady.

And finally, there was PR guru Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) who rebuked traditional ideals of relationships (and, as a result, often clashed with Charlotte on the subject) and voicing her liberal attitudes on sex.

The show, which was based on the book of the same name by author Candace Bushnell, ran for six seasons and then returned with two films following a four year hiatus.

And now, new episodes of 'Sex And The City' have been confirmed?

Yes! SJP, Nixon and Davis confirmed the news on Instagram on Sunday (January 11), announcing that the rebooted show will be called And Just Like That.

HBO Max, the streaming site where the spin-off will live, elaborated on the news in a press release confirming that 10 episodes - each 30 minutes long in duration - have been ordered by the network.

The show is described as a 'new chapter' in the Sex And The City world, based on the book by author Candice Bushnell and TV series by Darren Starr (who most recently turned his attention to creating Emily In Paris for Netflix).

'The series will follow Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s,' a synopsis of And Just Like That reads.

Will Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis appear in the new 'Sex And The City'?

Well, if you had guessed by the aforementioned synopsis, only three quarters of the SATC quartet are confirmed to return for And Just Like That: Parker, Nixon and Davis - with the show chronicling their three characters. The actors have also signed on as executive producers for the spin-off.

No reason for Cattrall's absence from the show has been provided nor confirmed. It is widely rumoured - and indeed appeared to be confirmed by Cattrall in 2018 - that she does not get along with Parker and has a strained relationship with the show. A couple of months after Cattrall's comments, Parker said that there was never a 'catfight' between the stars and that she would respect Cattrall's decision not to join a hypothetical SATC sequel if it came to fruition.

How will Samantha's absence in the show be explained? Well, we'll have to see. There have been some suggestions on Twitter, along with general heartache that 'Samantha Jones PR' - who provided a lot of the most memorable one-liners in the show's history - will not be returning for the spin-off series:

Responding to journalist Taffy Brodesser-Akner's call out for potential plot lines to explain Samantha's absence, Parker responded cryptically...

A few days later, Parker continued to respond to fans who flooded her Instagram comments following the announcement. When one wrote: 'Happy to see you back but will miss Kim/Samantha', the shoe designer responded with: 'We will too. We loved her so.' To another similar fan comment, Parker said: 'She [Samantha] will always be there.'

The actress then took a more direct response when someone wrote in her comments that Parker and Cattrall 'dislike' each other.

'No. I don't dislike her. I've never said that. Never would. Samantha isn't part of this story. But she will always be part of us. No matter where we are or what we do,' the mother-of-two wrote.

Following the announcement of And Just Like That, the creator of the books Bushnell also commented on Cattrall's absence from the upcoming HBO Max series, telling Page Six brushing off those who are unsure how the reboot will work with one quarter of the SATC group missing.

'You know what, I think it’s fine. Kim is a grown woman. She is 64 and she’s made a decision that I’m sure she has 10 very good reasons for and I respect her for that... But I also know there’s a lot of interesting characters like Miranda. We are all Mirandas. Miranda is an interesting character — but I don’t know what they’re gonna do.

'Kim should be happy — and I think she is happy. I think that her character Samantha is always going to be an inspiration to them. So somehow, I imagine she’ll be there in spirit and as an inspiration that gives them a chance of exploring sexuality with different characters.'

Cattrall has not commented on the show's return. Judging from her Twitter account, it seems like she is spending the first few days of 2021 resting and appreciating the small things in life in her home country of Canada.

When will the new 'Sex And The City' episodes be released and where can I watch them?

Currently, HBO Max is only available in the US... but some HBO Max shows have already been snapped up by international streaming sites - for example the brilliant Love Life (starring Anna Kendrick) which is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

No release date has been confirmed but production is set to begin in New York this spring, so it will be a little wait until we see the reboot on screens.

Is there a trailer for the 'Sex And The City' reboot?

Not exactly, but when the news was announced Parker, Davis and Nixon shared a short clip showing scenes of New York City which got us just as excited:

Commenting on the trailer on the And Just Like That's Instagram account, Parker wrote: 'So happy to be home again.'
