Sarah Paulson Teaches Jimmy Fallon How to Warm Up His Voice for Theater as He Jokes He’s ‘Having a Heart Attack’
The pair did lip trills and tongue twisters, which Paulson says she does to prepare for her Broadway show 'Appropriate'
Sarah Paulson is sharing her theater knowledge with Jimmy Fallon.
The 49-year-old actress — who is currently starring in a Broadway play called Appropriate — demonstrated to the TV host on Friday's episode of The Tonight Show how she warms up her vocals before taking the stage.
“We’re going to start with lip trills,” she said, to which Fallon responded, “Okay.”
Paulson then began to do the movement with her lips, as Fallon and the rest of the audience watched. “Okay, now I want, ‘La la, gaga, la la, gaga, la la la,' " she announced, and the host hilariously followed suit, saying the words.
However, Fallon appeared to have some trouble following along and got the words mixed up, prompting a “No, not good” from the actress. She then had him try another tongue twister, telling him to recite, “the lips, the teeth, the tip of the tongue” before doing it backwards.
“You can do it,” Paulson encouraged. Despite Fallon failing to correctly say the phrase, the actress told him to try it “faster.” He appeared to attempt to follow her lead before jumbling the words together. By the end of the segment, he had resorted to reciting random words, which made the American Horror Story actress start laughing.
“I’m having a heart attack,” Fallon joked, before dramatically falling to the ground in front of her.
“This is what happens if you don’t train properly and get your diaphragmatic breathing,” she told the audience, as Fallon yelled out, “We’re ready for Broadway!”
Several people close to the American Crime Story actress have celebrated her work on the stage since her play opened back in December.
Paulson celebrated the opening night of the play alongside her partner, Holland Taylor, a day after its premiere. She shared a photo of herself and Taylor, 80, smiling together at The Yard House Times Square in New York City.

“I’ve typically been separated from my person on these kinds of nights. Not this time,” Paulson wrote in a caption. “Deserves the grid.”
