Sarnia Mayor to move out of his office following rowdy council meeting

Sarnia city council decided on additional sanctions on Mayor Mike Bradley at its council meeting on Monday, a meeting that had Bradley supporters and detractors arguing heatedly.

All councillors except Coun. Dave Boushy voted in favour of removing Bradley from working in the mayor's office. Instead he'll work from a location outside city hall.

Councillors also voted to have all staff take sensitivity training.

At one point Sarnia police were called in to council chambers to help keep the peace. That was after Coun. Boushy suggested Bradley was the one being harassed. A man was escorted from council by police after that.

Council chambers were standing room only. Some in the crowd were holding up signs in support of Bradley.

The people in attendance were restless during preliminary council matters, and at one point the crowd was told to "show some respect."

City council discussed the findings of a workplace report alleging Bradley created a "poisonous" work environment for city staff.

The report released Oct. 7 was filed by Lauren Barnardi, a partner at Bernardi Human Resource Law LLP, found Bradley engaged in "egregious bullying and harassment" in his dealings with city staff.

Bradley has been denied after-hours access to city hall and is not allowed to communicate directly with city staff.

Bradley has maintained he has a "strong" presence in the workplace but has previously criticised the report. He previously suggested to CBC News he is the target of a witch hunt by some councillors.
