World's top Movember fundraiser a Prairie man

Reed Ludwig was honoured by Saskatchewan's premier for raising almost $100,000 for prostate cancer with his Movember moustache.

A Saskatchewan man was honoured by the premier Thursday for raising the most money in the world with his Movember moustache.

"We checked the Movember information today and worldwide, the number 1 fundraiser for prostate cancer and men's mental health is Reed Ludwig," said Brad Wall.

Ludwig, who works as an electrician at MEG Energy, a Canadian oilsands company, raised $96,321.

"It's quite overwhelming," said Ludwig, who lives in Medstead, located about 170 kilometres west of Prince Albert. "I still don't know how to describe it ... the support has been unbelievable."

This year, MEG Energy had a "grow off" for 10 days in October to decide who would represent the company for the 2012 Movember.

Though it was Ludwig's first moustache, he was selected as the winner. He said he shaved his qualifying moustache off to start clean for Movember.

In the legislature Thursday, he was presented with a certificate of merit, which included a photo of the province's first premier Walter Scott, who at the time, was sporting a thick moustache of his own.
