Saskatchewan Mountie Aiden Arthur Pratchett charged with child pornography offences

A Saskatchewan Mountie has been charged with child pornography offences.

Aiden Arthur Pratchett, 31, who has been charged with accessing and possessing child pornography, will appear in Prince Albert provincial court on Jan. 28, 2015.

Pratchett, a constable posted to the Fond du Lac detachment in northern Saskatchewan, has been with the RCMP for four years.

In October, investigators travelled to Fond du Lac and seized numerous computer devices from his home, the RCMP said.

He's been suspended with pay since October. Police continued their investigation and charged Pratchett on Monday. He was arrested by members of the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation unit.

"Allegations like these are disturbing when made against a member of the general public," Superintendent Alfredo Bangloy said in a news release. "We find it extremely disturbing that a serving police officer is facing charges like this."

Pratchett appeared before a justice of the peace on Monday and has been released pending his January court appearance.
