Saskatchewan weather records melt in early spring heat

Along with nudging people out from their homes and into the outdoors, Saturday's warm weather throughout the province broke several temperature records.

A total of seven different communities broke their respective records for high temperatures on April 2, according to Environment Canada data.

Here are the communities where yesterday's temperature was the warmest April 2 in recorded history:

- Assiniboia: 23.4 C (22 C in 1992)

- Elbow: 22.9 (22.2 in 1949)

- Moose Jaw: 24.5 (23.3 in 1915)

- Rosetown: 23.2 (20.6 in 1949)

- Saskatoon: 21 (20 in 1992)

- Swift Current: 22.1 (21.1 in 1915)

- Wynyard: 16.6 (16.4 in 1991)

Regina nearly broke its warm weather record, but didn't quite make it. Yesterday, the Queen City hit a high of 21.4 C. The record of 21.8 C still remains, set in 1991.

The historical average temperature in Saskatoon on April 2 is 5.6 C, while in Regina it's 6.2 C.
