A 30-year-old man is dead after an assault last month, and Saskatoon police are now investigating his death as a homicide.

Officers were called to a home on Chandler Place, near the Confederation Mall in west Saskatoon, at about 4 a.m. on April 15, police said in an April 16 news release.

They found the man unresponsive and with life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to hospital.

Witnesses told police that there had been an altercation outside another home on the same block, according to the April news release.

In an update Friday, police said the man died in hospital this week. They did not specify which day he died or disclose his identity.

His death is the ninth homicide in the city this year, police said.

Last year, there were 12 homicides in Saskatoon.

The Saskatoon Police Service is asking anyone with information about the incident to call them at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
