Save lives and get a chance to see Taylor Swift by donating blood in Kentucky. Here’s how

It won’t be a “Cruel Summer” for Taylor Swift fans who donate to the Kentucky Blood Center in the next month: all donors will be entered to win tickets to the Eras Tour.

From May 28 to June 29, all donors who give blood at a Kentucky Blood Center across the commonwealth will be entered to win two tickets to Swift’s sold-out Nov. 3 Eras Tour show in Indianapolis and a $500 Visa gift card.

Additionally, every donor will receive an “Anti-Hero” inspired t-shirt, emblazoned with the phrase, “It’s me, hi, I’m the hero, it’s me,” according to KBC.

In line with the trend of giving away friendship bracelets at Swift’s shows, people who donate on Mondays and Tuesdays will also receive friendship bracelets.

“Showing our appreciation of donors is always at the top of our mind, so we are particularly excited to give a local lifesaver the opportunity of a lifetime to see an icon at the pinnacle of her career,” said Mandy Brajuha, vice president of external relations at KBC.

“It takes good fortune to get your hands on tickets like these, but it only takes 45 minutes to save local lives and potentially go to a concert on us.”

Blood donations are critical during the summer, as donations typically slow down during this time of year. But the need for donations does not, as transfusions often increase during the summer, according to KBC.

The association with Swift is also an attempt to introduce Swift’s fan base, which can skew younger, to the importance of donating blood, KBC said.

Blood donations collected at KBC locations are distributed to more than 70 hospitals around the state, and used for patients undergoing surgeries, cancer treatment, organ transplants and other medical needs.

“Since the start of the pandemic, blood centers across America have seen young donor turnout at historically low levels,” KBC said. “While Swift has mass appeal across generations, the nonprofit is hoping to get young donors to make a summer donation or give blood donation at try for the first time.”
