Snow cancels school buses across eastern Ontario — except Ottawa

Despite a snowfall warning of nearly 15 centimetres Tuesday, school buses serving both English and French boards continue to run in Ottawa.

School buses are cancelled across the rest of eastern Ontario, however. No cancellations were announced in western Quebec.

The Ottawa Student Transportation Authority said there may be delays.

Broadly, schools are open and families can check with individual schools or boards for options when buses don't run.

Those Environment Canada snowfall warnings also cover the Cornwall and Brockville areas, Prescott-Russell, Gatineau and communities north of Gatineau.

Snow there is expected to end late this afternoon.

In Ottawa, Environment Canada said light snow had started by 2 a.m. and 12 centimetres had fallen by 12:30 p.m.

OC Transpo says riders should expect delays because of the weather.

Ottawa has a winter parking ban for most people on most streets from 7 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday. A Gatineau parking ban starts at midnight Tuesday into Wednesday.

Advisories starting to end

There are weather advisories west of Ottawa calling for about 10 centimetres of snow or more in Lanark County. It should taper off in the afternoon.

The Barry's Bay area may end up with closer to five centimetres.

Alerts are over for the rest of eastern Ontario.

Environment Canada reported 14 centimetres of snow by 12:30 p.m. in Kingston, 12 centimetres in Trenton, nine in Gatineau and eight in Brockville.

Ottawa has now had 11 days with at least 10 centimetres of snow since winter began Dec. 21.

Its international airport has recorded more than 275 centimetres of snow since the first flakes in November.

Daytime highs around 0 C are forecast in the capital for most of this week.
