An all-girls secondary school in Birmingham has been evacuated after a suspected unexploded hand grenade was found nearby.

Army bomb disposal experts have been called to a property in Bordesley Green Road after the device was discovered by a member of the public in a garden on Monday.

Pupils at Bordesley Green Girls' School & Sixth Form have been released early while emergency crews deal with the situation.

A police cordon remains in place at the scene and Bordesley Green Road is currently closed between Denbigh Street and Ronald Road.

Parents and guardians who are trying to collect their children from the school have been advised by West Midlands Fire Service to do so near the junction of Denbigh Street and Cherrywood Road.
