Selena Gomez Is Releasing Her New Song "Boyfriend" This Week

Selena Gomez is gifting her fans with new music, and she's finally releasing the much talked-about song "Boyfriend" (which, by the way, is not a cover of her ex Justin Bieber's song of the same name).

Selena announced on Instagram that a deluxe edition of her latest album, Rare, will be officially available on April 9 and will include three unreleased songs: "She," "Souvenir," and the aforementioned "Boyfriend." And while the title of the song may be "Boyfriend," Selena made it clear in the announcement that she's not interested in finding one right now.

"Many of you know how excited I've been to release a song called 'Boyfriend,'" she wrote in the second slide. "It's a lighthearted song about falling down and getting back up time and time again in love, but also knowing that you don't need anyone other than yourself to be happy."

Selena made sure to emphasize that the song doesn't reflect her current situation, and that she's got bigger things on her mind in light of the COVID-19 global pandemic. "We wrote it long before our current crisis, but in the context of today, I want to be clear that a boyfriend is nowhere near the top of my list of priorities. Just like the rest of the world, I'm praying for safety, unity, and recovery during this pandemic."

Selena decided to use this moment not only to treat her fans to a few unreleased goodies, but also to make a difference for others around the world who are struggling due to the pandemic. "Because of that, I'm personally donating to the Plus 1 COVID-19 relief fund as well as donating $1 from every order in my official store to the fund starting now," Selena wrote. "Rare (Deluxe) featuring 'Boyfriend' is out April 9th." New music and a charitable donation—could we love Selena more?

Selena has talked about "Boyfriend" before. While promoting Rare in January, she told Jimmy Fallon that it was one of her favorite songs. "There's a few other songs that I couldn't help but want to exist, so I can't really tell when, but one of my favorite tracks is called 'Boyfriend,' so I can't wait for people to hear that one," she said at the time. Lucky for us, we'll be hearing this much-anticipated song in just a few days!
