Sequinned cowboy boots, matching cowboy hats: what people wore to CCMF in Myrtle Beach

Mariah Cook said she centered her outfit for the Carolina Country Music Fest around her cow print cowboy boots. She donned a cow print belt and a clear bag with a similar strap to match and a cowboy hat.

Cook, who came from Charleston, said she collects cowboy boots and often designs her outfits based on her boots.

At Thursday evening’s CCMF, there were all styles of cowboy boots strutting around. Some were so bright red or heavily sequined that they could be seen from a block away. Others were ankle boots or traditional brown and black cowboy boots.

This is CCMF’s ninth year in Myrtle Beach. The sold-out event, which runs through Sunday, June 9, is expected to draw around 30,000 people a day, said Myrtle Beach spokesperson Meredith Denari. Headliners include Morgan Wallen, Carrie Underwood and Old Dominion.

CCMF has clothing themes for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, leaving Thursday night up to concert-goers imaginations. This allowed people to experiment, with many honing in on a country chic vibe. Cowboy boots and cowboy hats were popular accessories along with jean shorts, flowing dresses and lots of fringe.

The cowboy boots all had different stories. Tiffany Walbeck, of Michigan, said she doesn’t usually wear cowboy boots and decided to come at the last minute, so she got hers for less than $10 off Temu, a fast fashion website.

On the other hand, Mary Healy had a pair with an American flag print that she got in Nashville several years ago. She said she saw a woman wearing the same pair at Coyote Ugly Saloon in Nashville and fell in love with them. Afterward, she bought her own pair, went back to Coyote Ugly and danced with the same girl while wearing matching boots.

Along with country chic, several groups coordinated their outfits. For example, Beckett Sites and his friends wore blue shirts with a picture of his mugshot and a profane slogan. Sites said he was recently arrested for public intoxication at a concert and the shirt was made for fun.

The friend group also cut their shirts into crop tops, letting them stop around the waist.

For the rest of the weekend, several people said they planned to dress on theme. Friday is Hawaiian Night as a tribute to Jimmy Buffet, Saturday is neon cowboy and Sunday is U.S. of A. Day as a tribute to Toby Keith.

Catie Altice and Madison Ingram said they packed enough clothing for three weeks and were excited to dress for the themes.
