'Serial Slingshot Shooter': Man, 81, Arrested for Allegedly Terrorizing Neighborhood for 10 Years

An elderly man was forced to hang up his unusual weapon after a decade of allegedly terrorizing his neighborhood with a slingshot.
In a press release announcing the arrest of the man, 81-year-old Prince Raymond King of Azusa, California, on May 23, the Azusa Police Department dubbed him a “serial slingshot shooter.”
Police said King used ball bearings and a slingshot to damage property, and almost hit people, in his neighborhood for around a decade.
“DEU conducted a lengthy investigation and learned that during the course of 9-10 years, dozens of citizens were being victimized by a serial slingshot shooter,” the release said, noting that the previously unknown suspect “broke windows, windshields and almost stuck people with ball bearings.”
Footage of the vandalized area captured by local outlet ABC 7 showed windows with varying levels of damage, some with BB gun pellet-sized holes, while others were entirely shattered.
Throughout the decade of vandalism, no injuries were reported, Lieutenant Jake Bushey of the Azusa Police Department told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.
Bushey also told the outlet that law enforcement officials have been investigating the serial slingshot shooter since his very first attack — but were not able to identify him until now.
“It’s been ongoing for many years,” the police lieutenant said, “because we just didn’t identify who the suspect was.”

After a decade of property damage via slingshot, the department carried out a search warrant in King’s neighborhood earlier this month.
During a search of his residence, investigators found an unspecified number of ball bearings and a slingshot.
King was arrested and booked into jail several hours later, according to records viewed by PEOPLE.
He is currently being held in Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles on no bail. It is not immediately clear if he has legal representation to comment on his behalf.
