Several trapped after car crashes into Apple store in Massachusetts

Several people are trapped inside an Apple store in Massachusetts after an SUV crashed into the crowded shop, authorities have said.

Local newspaper the Patriot Ledger reported as many as 14 people were taken by ambulance to area hospitals following the incident at the Derby Street shopping centre in Hingham, with four in critical condition.

It also reported that one person had died, but authorities have not confirmed this.

Hanover Fire Department shared an image of the scene, which showed a huge hole smashed through the glass window of the Apple store.

Police are understood to have called for a tow truck to remove the black SUV from the building, which also has possible structural damage.

Pictures and video footage circulating on social media show several people on stretchers outside the store as emergency crews attended the scene.

Multiple ambulances have responded to the incident and a medical helicopter has been requested, the Patriot Ledger newspaper said.

Hanover Fire Department said it had also responded to the incident along with Plymouth County Tech Rescue Team.

The store opened at 10am on Monday and the crash happened approximately an hour after, television station WCVB reported.
