Sewing Bee fans in hysterics at 'absolutely bananas' lingerie week item

The Great British Sewing Bee viewers have been left in hysterics over an off-the-wall creation with a fake six-pack stitched into a lace bodice.

Lingerie week was the latest challenge for the BBC One show's contestants, but they felt they were stitched up by a tricky task to create a shapewear item with added lace that had to be "surprising".

While Marcus certainly met the brief, his unusual item left judges and viewers baffled, and ultimately led to the end of his competition.

What, how and why?

The Great British Sewing Bee gave contestants one of their toughest challenges yet in lingerie week as they were asked to create a shapewear item featuring lace that judge Esme Young said had to be "surprising".

Contestant Marcus certainly ran with the instruction as he put together a lace tube bulked out with a muscly six-pack and pecs, leaving the show's stars and viewers astounded.

One viewer commented on X: "This is incredibly unhinged. It looks like Timothee Chalamet playing King Kong."

Someone else joked: "Hang this in the V&A!!!" while another viewer laughed: "That 6 pack one." One person added: "What exactly is that fake six pack thing?!"

However, it wasn't the only lingerie week item that left jaws on the floor as one person commented: "every single one of these garments are horrifying and terrible."

Unfortunately for Marcus, the item saw him out of the contest as he became the latest person to be sent home.

Judge Patrick Grant said of Marcus' achievements on the series: "The man torso...Marcus is just an original."

What else has been happening on The Great British Sewing Bee?

In previous weeks, the show's fans have said it’s time for a shake-up over the “ridiculous” time limits that contestants face on the BBC show.

One episode saw the sewing enthusiasts creating a traditional Nehru jacket. However, most found it tough to finish it, with one confessing the coat would have to be taped on because they weren't going to get the buttons done. They had similar issues with the evening wear.

Many people watching the programme posted messages on X as it aired, suggesting that it was time for a change to the time limits so that the contestants would have the chance to show off their best work.

"So sad," wrote one person. "Is it a sewing SPEED competition or is it a sewing SKILLS competition?" Another called for a "no time limit season".

"I’m so over the contestants not having enough time," said someone else. "It’s frustrating, I’d love to see properly finished garments."

Another said: "Four hrs to make a Nehru jacket is ridiculous! I’d struggle to do that and I’ve been sewing for most of my life." "I’m loving this sari inspired challenge, would prefer they had more time to do it justice," commented another viewer.

The Great British Sewing Bee airs on BBC One at 9pm on Wednesday.
