Edmonton shakes a tail feather for charity at Turkey Drive Spectacular
Hundreds of people flooded Edmonton's French Quarter Thursday as CBC Edmonton hosted its annual Turkey Drive Spectacular.
For the final day of Turkey Drive, the Edmonton AM crew — dressed in their holiday best — took over at La Cité Francophone for a morning of live music and great guests in support of the Edmonton Food Bank.
The live broadcast is the big finale for the station's holiday fundraising campaign, and this year did not disappoint.
A breakfast feast was set to the tune of holiday carollers and live radio banter. The University of Alberta Madrigal Singers and young entertainers with Brookside School choir got people in the festive mood with some holiday classics.
Major Love — Colleen Brown backed by members of Scenic Route to Alaska — served as the house band.
Event hosts La Cité Francophone and Café Bicyclette served fresh crêpes and coffee. Glen LaValley, Edmonton's best-known balloon artist — a.k.a. Glen the Balloon Guy — twisted new creations into shape.
Since 1995, Turkey Drive has raised more than $4 million in support of Edmonton's Food Bank. This year, the event is trying to raise $500,000.
