But O’Neal’s exit for the Los Angeles Lakers prompted some bitter feelings on the scorned Magic. But now, that’s all apparently been forgotten and forgiven.
This is the third team to retire Shaq’s number. The Lakers retired his No. 34 jersey in April 2013, and the Miami Heat retired his No. 32 jersey in December 2016. O’Neal won three titles with the Lakers and another with the Heat.
O’Neal will be the first player in Magic history to have his uniform number retired. He wore No. 32 with Orlando. The ceremony will take place Feb. 13.
O’Neal was the 1992-93 NBA Rookie of the Year and an All-Star in each of his four seasons with the Magic.
