Shooting believed to be targeted shatters window at Planet Fitness gym in Toronto

Toronto police are investigating after more than one shot was fired through the window at a gym in the Jane and Finch area late Friday night while people were inside.

Police say no one was injured in the drive-by shooting that is believed to be targeted.The gunshots shattered a window and left patrons shaken.

Staff Sgt. Paul Bois, spokesperson for 31 Division of Toronto Police Service, said police received the call about the gunfire that damaged Planet Fitness, 1 York Gate Blvd., in Yorkgate Mall, near Jane Street and Finch Avenue West, at about 11:30 p.m.

"It was operating and people were working out inside," Bois said Saturday.

Bois said police believe a man walking outside the gym was the intended target of the shooting. The man, who was uninjured, told police that a vehicle had been following him.

The shots were fired from a car, believed to be dark in colour and four door. The suspect fled in the vehicle.

A description of the suspect was not available.

Bois said police taped off the gym as they collected evidence but officers are no longer at the scene.

Police were called to at least two other locations for the sound of gunshots on Friday night.

According to police tweets, gunfire was heard at Tandridge Crescent and Arcot Boulevard in Etobicoke and Don Mills Road and Lawrence Avenue East in North York.
