Man shot dead in Vaughan, body found in parking lot

York Regional Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in Vaughan on Thursday.

A man was found dead in the parking lot of a Vaughan strip mall on Thursday afternoon, after police received calls about multiple gunshots being fired at a café.

York Regional Police were called to the Regina Road scene just after 2 p.m.

Const. Andy Pattenden told reporters that police are looking for "at least one male" in connection with the shooting, as well as a vehicle that may have fled the scene.

Homicide detectives are leading the investigation and a coroner had arrived on the scene by the supper hour.

Pattenden said that investigators were trying to track down witnesses and any relevant video surveillance.

"There were people that were in the café and in the area, our investigators have spoken to a number of witnesses at this point," Pattenden said Thursday. "However, we do feel that there were people that left the scene prior to police arrival."

There is no information on the identity of the victim.

Pattenden said the victim was "possibly in his late 40s, 50s, but at this point and time it’s too early to tell."
