Shooting leaves one man dead, injures 2-year-old child in Atwater, police say

Authorities are investigating after a shooting left one man dead and injured a 2-year-old child in Atwater.

Officers responded to the 100 block of Castle Drive around midnight Friday on a report of subject down and shots fired, according to an Atwater Police Department news release. The arriving officers located a man with multiple gunshot wounds and attempted lifesaving measures. The man was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said officers also located a 2-year-old child who sustained a gunshot wound to their lower leg. The child was transported to a hospital for further treatment of the injury which appeared to be non-life-threatening, according to authorities.

The incident is under investigation and detectives are working to follow up on leads, according to police. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Atwater Police Department at 209-357-6384 and ask to speak with Detective-Sgt. Sarginson or Detective Navas, according to authorities.
