Six new teams join The Carolinas Top 25 poll, the best NC, SC high school football teams

The top three teams remain the same in Week 3 of The Carolinas Top 25 high school football poll, but there’s lots of changes in the ranking of the best teams in North and South Carolina.

To start? Six new teams are in this week.

Four are from North Carolina: No. 14 Greensboro Dudley, No. 15 Fayetteville 71st, No. 23 Charlotte Catholic and No. 25 Clinton.

The two new teams from South Carolina are No. 21 Spartanburg, and the highest entry among the newcomers,No. 13 Anderson TL Hanna.

Spartanburg beat Dutch Fork 17-6, sending a team that began the season ranked in the 20 of many national polls to an 0-2 start. Dutch Fork dropped out of the top 25 this week after being ranked fourth a week ago.

Some other highlights:

Rock Hill South Pointe (SC), off to a 2-0 start, jumped six spots to No. 7.

Gaffney (SC) jumped 11 spots to No. 9.

Despite losing to national No. 5 Buford (GA) 10-7, Mallard Creek (NC) moved up from ninth to sixth.

And longtime NC power Charlotte Catholic makes it debut in the poll. The Cougars (2-0) play No. 1 Providence Day on national television Friday.
