Snow load prompts Charlottetown Airport closure

The terminal building at Charlottetown Airport was closed for much of Monday due to concerns about the amount of snow on the roof.

The terminal re-opened shortly after 4 p.m. after workers cleared much of the snow.

More than 70 centimetres of snow has fallen at the airport since Sunday morning. That’s on top of 150 centimetres of snow that had fallen since Jan. 27.

The snow had mostly stopped by late afternoon, but strong winds are expected to continue past midnight. Most flights Monday were cancelled, but the airport is reporting a midnight flight from Toronto will probably be able to land.
