Sole bidder awarded summer landscaping contract

GUYSBOROUGH — The Municipality of the District of Guysborough (MODG) has hired Gleenkeen Property Maintenance to mow, trim, weed, mulch, top-dress and fertilize its public lawns and bushes this summer.

Council approved an expenditure of $53,820 plus HST for seasonal landscaping (May- October 18) at its May 1 committee of the whole meeting after the Boylston company produced the sole bid in a 10-day public tender that closed on April 25.

“There were a number of folks that did ask us for the package [but] we received one proposal,” MODG Director of Public Works Glen Avery noted to council. “The services are mostly going to be in the Guysborough area. But we are going to use them in smaller little projects, here and there, when needed. And those would be billed separately.”

According to Avery’s brief, MODG advertised for “for interest in professional landscaping services for specific properties owned by MODG” on April 16, 2024. The work locations included all municipal sidewalks the Chedabucto Lifestyle Complex, Cutler’s Brook subdivision, municipal building, areas around the Chedabucto pool and the Shoreline Trail.

The term of the contract is for three years and is subject to a two-year renewal unless either party submits written notice of cancellation with at least 30 days notice prior to completion of the contract term. MODG had earmarked $60,000 for the work in its 2024-25 budget.
