It’s pretty difficult to keep your eyes on the road on this beautiful stretch of countryside in China.

This 5,757m-long mountain road has just been opened in Xiushan county near the city of Chongqing and already it is becoming a tourist attraction.

It’s easy to see why: the route has been dubbed the “road to heaven” because of its wonderful views.

However, drivers must be wary: there are 45 dangerous hairpin turns on the road and it goes from 625m to 1,175m above sea level.

Chongqing is already known as the “city of mountains”, so it is perhaps no surprise the new zigzag road is being celebrated. It is hoped it will become a tourist attraction which will help the nearby village of Chuanhegai thrive.

The road is the only access route in and out of the village.
