Downey catcher Andre Mendoza was key in helping the Knights win their final Central California Athletic League baseball series and remain in playoff position.

The senior helped lead his team to a 14-2 series-clinching win by going 4-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI and two runs scored to keep the Knights in the league’s third and final playoff spot.

The fans noticed his perfect performance, voting him The Bee’s Boys Prep of the Week.

Mendoza came in first, collecting 63% of the votes in the weekly poll. He finished ahead of baseball players Caleb Wilson (Hughson) and Caiden Whittle (Central Valley) who were second and third, respectively.
