Stephen Curry won’t defend his title, but here are other big names golfing in Tahoe this summer

While Stephen Curry won’t be there to defend his title, the American Century Championship added other prominent names to the popular celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe this summer.

Tournament officials on Tuesday announced Alex Rodriguez, Albert Pujols and NFL quarterback Trevor Lawrence will be making their event debuts among the star-studded field, July 10-14 at Edgewood Tahoe in Stateline, Nevada.

Curry won’t be playing this summer after winning the event with a walk-off eagle on the final hole last year and having a highlight reel hole-in-one. Instead, he’ll be representing Team USA in the Olympics looking to win his first gold medal at this summer’s games in Paris. Curry is expected to be back at the tournament next year and hopes to make the Champions Tour after he retires from the NBA. His brother, Seth, and father, Dell are in the field.

Rodriguez and Pujols each put up Hall-of-Fame numbers while playing 22 Major League Baseball seasons.

Lawrence is entering his fourth season this fall with the Jacksonville Jaguars after recording back-to-back 4,000-yard seasons. Other first-time participants include actor and owner of Wrexham AFC, Rob McElhenney; Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves; quarterback Joe Flacco; former NBA star Blake Griffin; and Chris Harrison, the former host of “The Bachelor.”

Familiar names returning to play include Charles Barkley, Tony Romo, Josh Allen, Jerry Rice, Aaron Rodgers and Steve Young.

There are two notable names missing from the Kansas City Chiefs. Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce are not listed in the field after playing in the tournament the last few years. Kelce has been seen traveling to Swift’s “Eras Tour” concerts this summer, which has dates in Switzerland and Italy during the golf tournament.

The American Century Championship is a 54-hole competition with a $750,000 purse and $150,000 first prize not including numerous charity elements benefiting the Tahoe area. It will be broadcast by NBC, Gof Channel and Peacock during its three rounds July 12-14.
