Who Is Steve Treviño's Wife? All About Renae Treviño
'Simple Man' star Steve Treviño's act is inspired by his wife Renae Treviño
Steve Treviño tells jokes about his marriage onstage, but the stand-up comedian is also quick to praise his wife, Renae Treviño.
On the first episode of the couple's podcast, Steve Treviño & Captain Evil: The Podcast, Steve and Renae opened up about their history together, sharing that they both grew up in the same small Texas town and were family friends.
They didn't start dating until Renae spent her college summer break in Los Angeles, and her dad asked Steve, who was there pursuing comedy, to keep an eye on her.
A few years later, they married on Oct. 22, 2012. The couple welcomed their first child, Garrett Jose Treviño, in October 2015, and their second child, Delilah Ray Treviño, in November 2020.
Despite using his wife and kids as fodder for his routine, Steve told The Unionville Times in 2022 that he knows he wed an impressive woman.
"I’m just an average married man madly in love with my above-average wife — and I want to make her happy," he said. "I think that translates to the audience. My narrative is I’m a normal dude trying to be a good spouse and father."
So who is Steve Treviño's wife? Here's everything to know about Renae Treviño and her relationship with the Simple Man star.
Steve and Renae grew up in the same town
Steve and Renae grew up in Gregory-Portland, a town just outside Corpus Christi, Texas. Though they've known each other's families for a while, they weren't raised together because he's several years older.
"I have known your parents my whole life," he said to Renae on their podcast. "As a matter of fact, my stepmother, who came into my life when I was 9 years old, threw a baby shower for your mom when she was pregnant with your older brother. That's how far our families go back."
She's an actress
Like Steve, Renae is also a performer whose main profession is acting, though she can dance and play the piano as well.
According to her LinkedIn profile, she graduated from the New York University Tisch School of Arts with a bachelor’s degree in theater in 2005.
Steve told The News of San Patricio in 2019 that despite being "a very educated Latina," it's hard for his wife to get acting work because she doesn't speak Spanish.
Still, Renae has performed onstage in New York and Texas in productions like A Few Good Men and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and has appeared in shows, including Days of Our Lives, per her résumé.
They've been married for over a decade
Steve and Renae tied the knot on Oct. 22, 2012. For their 10th anniversary in 2022, Renae posted a video montage on Instagram of their years spent together.
"I’ve loved you since I was 19 years old and with each passing year I only love you more," she captioned the post. "Your love & belief in me is gold. You're an incredible human & I’m so lucky you’re mine. Happy 10 years @texastrevino here’s to another sweet decade."
They have two kids
Steve and Renae started a family a few years after becoming husband and wife. Their son Garrett Jose was born on Oct. 9, 2015, and their daughter Delilah Ray was born on Nov. 30, 2020.
In 2023, Renae opened up on the Mom Curious podcast about what it's like bringing their kids on the road while Steve is touring. She shared that although having their child on the move is difficult, the experience is worth it.
"[Delilah] is a strong-willed little lady, and I know it's gonna serve her very well in her future, it's just hard to parent," she said. "Thank goodness there's that [age] gap because traveling with two is hard ... We're not going to do it all the time because it's intense, but it's important and has value."
They host a podcast together
In 2020, the couple launched Steve Treviño & Captain Evil: The Podcast to give fans of Steve's stand-up a chance to meet the woman he talks about onstage.
He gave his wife the nickname "Captain Evil" during his comedy special Steve Treviño - 'Til Death when he joked about how whenever he's having too much fun, she shows up and ruins it.
On their podcast, they discuss marriage, parenting and "what Captain Evil has to deal with every day." According to Steve's website, the show has over 1.5 million views and streams.
“I’m talking about the struggles of raising children and talking about how me and my wife complement each other," Steve told Lovin' Life in 2023 about their partnership.
He continued, "I bring things to the table that she doesn’t have, and she brings things to the table that I don’t have. That’s why our marriage is successful. People see that being different is always a plus.”
She loves decorating their home
On her Instagram account, Renae shares her home projects, holiday decorating tips and recipes. She's posted tutorials on everything from making mini pumpkin charcuterie trays to decorating Garrett's room for Christmas.
"I love to decorate, but no matter the season, a tablescape is my favorite," she captioned a 2023 Instagram post about setting the table for Thanksgiving. "Cooking a large meal stresses me out, but decorating for the occasion is my happy place."
She's produced Steve's comedy specials
In addition to being the inspiration behind Steve's jokes, Renae has also had a hand in producing and directing three of her husband's comedy specials.
"Mostly out of need and pure grit and us being a team and having to make it happen for ourselves," she explained on Mom Curious.
While her family and friends didn't love Renae being the butt of Steve's jokes at first, she said she never takes it personally.
"I honestly don't [care]," Renae said on the podcast. "Life has ups and downs, and I see the humor in it. Honestly, it makes me laugh too. You can be a Karen about it, but where's the joy in that?"
