Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has shared the sweet message of support Kate Middleton sent her amid her chemotherapy treatment.

The TV star was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer last year, sharing updates on her health as well as the process of her treatment with her fans online.

Last month, she delighted followers of her journey, sharing that her latest health checks had shown "no evidence of disease". She added she will not receive the "all clear" for five years due to her type of cancer.

Speaking on Loose Women on Wednesday (April 24), Amy spoke to the panel about meeting the Princess of Wales during her treatment, with Kate announcing earlier this year that she herself was undergoing treatment for cancer.

"I was lucky enough to meet [Kate] during my chemo treatment, and she gave me so much time. She was so kind. Actually, her words were, 'Let us know if there's anything we can do'," she shared.

"Just knowing that she's finding out that she has to have chemo and knowing what you have to go for. Emotionally, my family, whilst I was going for treatment, I don't think my parents slept."

She went on to speak about the impact the tumultuous time has on her family, and how "raw" Kate's diagnosis is to her considering her own experience with cancer.

"I can remember getting the news, and my sister saying: 'Oh, dad will sleep tonight now'. I could see in their eyes, the pain in their eyes. I can't tell you how many times my parents would say they would do anything to take it away from me or them to have it instead of me.

"My mum's had cancer twice and it's just the thought. [Kate] has to go through it in the public eye and she's got three young children. I don't want anyone to go through it, it's still very raw to me."

Through her treatment, Amy has urged people to check their breasts regularly and to be aware of the signs of breast cancer.

Taking part in a video for Wales-based charity Tenovus Cancer Care, she posted on Instagram: "Hello everyone, it's Amy here from Strictly Come Dancing. Now October, it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, something very close to my heart as I am currently receiving chemotherapy for my breast cancer.

"And I want to ask you guys a favour. Please help raise awareness. There are too many of us suffering with this. But also we need to get more people checking their chests. Let's make it a regular thing. It just needs to be once a month, get to know your own chests."
