Strong showing at provincials for Williams Lake gymnasts
It was a successful provincial championships for Williams Lake gymnasts.
The Cariboo Chilcotin Gymnastic Association sent a handful of gymnasts to participate in two provincial championship events — the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) Compulsory BC Championships and the inaugural Gymnastics BC Xcel Challenge, both of which took place April 11 to April 14 at Queens Park Arena in New Westminster.
The new Xcel Challenge joins the WAG championship as the largest and most prestigious annual gymnastics events in B.C., as athletes must attain a qualifying score just to register for the event.

The association sent athletes to compete in the WAG Compulsory BC Championships for the very first time, and coach Peggy Wilcox said the entire association is proud of the way each athlete performed and handled themselves throughout the tournament.
“For a first ever attendance at such a prestigious event, the coaches were very pleased with athlete performances and composure,” she said.
The Xcel Challenge, like the WAG championships, attracts the best athletes of each level from each club. Xcel is an alternative competitive program that offers flexibility to coaches and gymnasts, and places focus on artistry, innovations and presentation.
“This is the very first year the club has trained athletes to compete in it,” Wilcox said. “We are excited to see more athletes partake in the following years.”
The Canadian Provincial Program (CPP) Level 1 team of Presleigh Schwartz, Callia Pook, Aria Feddema and Madilynn Taylor had an outstanding All Round Team aggregate score and brought home silver, in addition to their personal event awards.
“Quite an achievement for their first year in competitive gymnastics,” Wilcox said.
Cariboo Chilcotin Gymnastic Association gymnasts who participated in the provincial events are: Ariah Reid, Ashlynn Gibson, Xaria Jourdain, Brooklyn Page, Lauren Pinette, Madison Croswell, Aleigha Leclerc, Sophia Leclerc, Emily Nadeau, Mya Franklin, Madilynn Taylor, Callia Pook, Ava Meyers, Brooke Williston, Emilia Hannas, Aria Feddema, Presleigh Schwartz, Gabriella Fichtner, Tenley Glanville and Kamrynne McLennan.
