‘Suits’ Toppled By ‘Virgin River’ On Nielsen Streaming Charts; ‘Ahsoka’ Builds Momentum

Suits finally fell from grace.

For the first time in 12 weeks (and after breaking another record the week before), the USA Network legal drama was bumped from its top spot on the Nielsen streaming charts from September 11-17.

Don’t get it twisted, Suits still racked up 1.9 billion viewing minutes and took second place during this interval across Netflix and Peacock — which is icing on the cake for NBCUniversal, as the studio now appears to be eyeing an expansion of the Suits universe — but it was heavyweight Virgin River that came out on top.

The Netflix original hit the Nielsen charts last week at No. 2, following the debut of Season 5. With a full week of availability on the streaming platform, the latest installment helped boost Virgin River to an impressive 2.1 billion minutes viewed.

That, of course, is across all 52 episodes, since Nielsen doesn’t differentiate its viewing metrics by season. However, Virgin River Season 5 recently logged its fifth week on Netflix’s own Top 10, so it seems like the series won’t be disappearing from the Nielsen charts any time soon.

Third place on the overall list went to Elemental, which landed on Disney+ on September 13. In its first few days on the platform, it logged 1.7B viewing minutes.

The remainder of the overall list was dominated by acquired staples like NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy and S.W.A.T. — but Dear Child and One Piece did manage to break through the noise as well.

While it didn’t make the overall list, Prime Video put up three titles on the streaming originals front. Notably, Kelce debuted this interval, tallying 179 million viewing minutes in its first few days on the platform. Earlier this week, Prime Video touted it as the streamer’s most-watched documentary film ever in the U.S., which indicates it could spend quite a bit of time on Nielsen’s radar.

The Wheel of Time and A Million Miles Away also represented for Prime Video.

Disney+ also saw continued momentum with Ahsoka. Episode 5 released during this window, which helped boost the series 26% in viewing versus the week prior to take No. 4 among streaming originals with 577M minutes viewed.
