Superior Glove expands operations to Springdale, will start with 12 workers

Superior Glove Works Limited is expanding its operation in rural Newfoundland to include a location in Springdale, Newfoundland

The Acton, Ontario-based company, which manufactures work gloves and protective sleeves for a global market, currently operates another factory in Point Leamington.

The Springdale plant will open in November, employing 12 people.

Julie McFater, marketing and communications manager with Superior Glove says the operation has plans to hire more in the future.

"20 (more employees) for sure in the new year and if all goes as planned, this should be the trajectory we hope to keep up," she said.

When Superior Glove moved to Point Leamington in 1988, it opened a small manufacturing set-up in the town hall. Now that operation is thousands of square feet in size along the wharf of the town — and employs up for 150 people at peak production.

McFater said it's a natural fit for the company to expand in other parts of the province.

"We were able to get skilled workers and train people," she said. "Newfoundlanders are some of the best Canadians we've ever worked with."
