Susanna Hoffs of The Bangles Embraces Aging With Makeup-Free Video: ‘This Is 65’
Bangles frontwoman Susanna Hoffs shared a makeup-free video on Instagram.

In your mind’s eye, Bangles guitarist and singer Susanna Hoffs probably dons layers of ’80s patterns, giant hair, and smears of dark eyeliner and lipstick. But in 2024, her everyday look is much more low-key—in fact, she recently shared a makeup-free video to proudly own her natural features and aging. “This is 65,” she said in the clip.
Hoffs took the video shortly after waking up, bed head on full display. “No makeup, I had my coffee,” she shared, holding up her mug. “Cheers, and I’m getting ready to walk.” In the caption, she wrote, “I just woke up. Sleepy head, despite the coffee ☕️.”
Fans melted over the beauty and light that beamed from her, even just after waking. “How could anyone look so beautiful without makeup!!!??? You blow me away!!!!!❤️” one commented. “Love the rise of older women boldly not buying into the anti-aging pressure and nonsense 💚,” another added. “You are the personification of the beauty that joy brings!” someone else wrote.

The recently debut novelist turned 65 in January, and she shared her gratitude for aging in a celebratory clip. “Time marches on,” she said. “But it’s all good. No makeup. It’s gonna be OK. Getting older is OK. It really is. Older and wiser.”
Just because she’s content with her current self doesn’t mean she doesn’t like to reminisce, though. Hoffs often shares throwback snaps from her days on tour with the Bangles—she even occasionally tries on outfits that she still has from her performing days. “This is a dress I definitely can’t zip up,” she laughed in one clip, wearing a black crocheted mesh dress with a beige underlayer. “This is one I wore in some photo sessions... not too bad.”
In another video, she attempted to recreate her signature fluffy up-do from the ’80s. “Big pile of hair, this was my look,” she said while tweaking her bird’s nest-esque top knot. “I haven’t done this in a long time. Now I’m obsessed with getting this whole ’80s hair thing maxed out... what do we think?”
