T-Rex spotted roaming the streets of Winnipeg

A T-Rex named Conrad is embracing Winnipeg and all it has to offer. The T-Rex has been spotted at Assiniboine Park trying out the toboggan run, at Wheelies busting a move on roller skates, and soon, he hopes to be checking out hot spots like the Forks and Birdshill Park.

"Probably do some fishing. I think it'll be hilarious to see a T-Rex do some fishing with those little arms trying to reel in a fish," said Sean Piper, Conrad's human counterpart.

Piper, a lifelong Winnipegger, purchased the T-Rex costume last October at a Halloween store. A friend of his named it 'Conrad' and the T-Rex took on a life of its own.

"Wherever we think would be fun to take him, we're going to take him," said Piper.

In the past few month, similar T-Rex costumes have been popping up in viral videos on social media. Piper thought it would be fun to take Conrad out for some adventures of his own.

"There are tons of videos out there. Everything from ice skating to parkour to workouts and groups of them. I really hope that Conrad can be a part of some of that," said Piper.

Piper enjoys seeing people's reactions to the dinosaur.

"I like fun and I like seeing people smile. People walking by will see an inflatable T-Rex going by on their way to 7-11 or at the Forks or whatever, and they just stop and go 'what?'," said Piper.

Piper has been involved with groups of friends who along with their kids sometimes, dress up like animals to attend parties and events, for nearly three years. He said dressing up offers an escape from his ordinarily out-of-the-spotlight personality.

"I'm not big on having people focusing on me, but once I'm in Conrad, all bets are off," said Piper.

Piper hopes anyone else who purchased the same costume will join him.

"I think it would be really great to get together this summer for some shenanigans, take some videos. Hit up the Forks or Assiniboine Park and just see the reaction 'cause that's funny."
