Taco Bell’s Fan-Favorite Mexican Pizza Is Already Being Removed From Menus Despite Customers' Pleas
Last month we reported on Taco Bell's jaw-dropping audacity to remove its fan-favorite Mexican Pizza from the menu (amongst many other items) and to no surprise, fans have not liked it. And while the customer is usually always right, it doesn't seem that Taco Bell feels the same way because they're not giving in to keeping it on the menu.
As a heartbreaking reminder, the Mexican Pizza—which had a secured spot on the menu for 32 years—will only be available nationwide for a few more days before being permanently removed. Fans, however, have done their best to put a halt to the November 5 removal plan by divvying out overtly passionate pleas and rounding up other MP lovers to sign petitions. One last ditch effort to get the brand to reconsider putting the beloved menu item on the chopping block has even racked up over 130,000 signatures. Titled "Save the Mexican Pizza," the Change.org petition encourages people to sign by citing the love that the South Asian community has for it. "Losing this item would not only be the loss of one of our favorite foods, but a piece of our childhood & heritage as Indian Americans," it read while also pushing people to buy as many as possible to drive up the numbers.
But low numbers aren't the reason that this lovable item is being discontinued. According to Taco Bell, the item is being removed from its lineup in part because of its environmental impact. The packaging associated with the meal accounts for over seven million pounds of paperboard material per year in the U.S.
Even with all of the petitions going around to save one of the best speciality items that Taco Bell has ever created though, the brand isn't planning on changing its mind. Sadly, it's already been removed from the "specialty menu" both in the mobile app and online. And if you're thinking about hitting your nearest Taco Bell to get your *last* Mexican Pizza fix, good luck finding one that still has it on the menu. Man of the locations have already removed it ahead of the official November 5 date.
Talk about disappointing.
